FAQs

Easy Heat premium grade wood fuel pellets may be small in size, but like many biomass energy products, can produce a large number of questions. Through our experience dealing with customers and other biomass industry experts, we have gathered some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that we are happy to provide in the space below. These questions pertain to a wide variety of topics including Easy Heat products and availability, as well as general knowledge.

Q: Where can I find Easy Heat premium grade wood fuel pellets?

A: We are continually expanding our network of authorized Easy Heat dealers. Click Here to find a retail location nearest to you.

Q: Do you harvest trees to make your wood pellets?

A: No we do not. 100% of our 100% premium grade wood pellets come from lumber industry by-products (solid wood portions leftover from processing).

Q: What is the BTU difference between wood pellets and firewood or wood chips?

A: Wood pellets burn at 350,000 BTUs per cubic foot while firewood and wood chips typically burn at 70,000 to 90,000 BTUs per cubic foot.

Q: What is biomass energy?

A: Simply put, biomass energy is energy derived from living or once-living organisms. Because the wood we use to make our pellets was once part of a living tree, our product is considered to be a biomass fuel source.

Q: What is the bulk density of your pellets?

A: The bulk density of our pellets is approximately 40lbs. per cubic foot or 50 cubic feet per ton.

Q: Can I burn wood pellets in a conventional woodstove?

A: Wood pellets are not intended to be used in a conventional woodstove, and will not deliver the same level of performance and efficiency as they do when used in a proper pellet stove.

Q. How does the cost of wood pellet heat compare to gas and electric heat?

A. When compared to other heat sources, the price of wood pellet heat is very competitive, and has remained more constant over time. Because biomass energy is renewable, price fluctuations common with fossil fuels caused by supply shortages is not an issue.

Q: Why should I pay more for premium pellets over cheaper pellets? Is there really a difference?

A: Yes! While they may cost more initially, premium grade wood pellets produce more heat per ton, so you end up using less overall and your ton lasts much longer. Using less also means less hauling, loading, storing, and clean up. When you burn less, there is less stress on your heating system which lowers your ongoing maintenance costs. And finally, burning less means fewer emissions into our atmosphere.

Q: How long does one bag of pellets last?

A: According to the Pellet Fuels Institute, a 40-lb bag of pellet fuel can provide up to 24 hours of solid heat. A winter’s supply of wood pellets is about 100-150 bags—depending on climatic and lifestyle variations.

Q: Where can I find out more information about the Tax Credit for Purchase of Biomass Stoves?

A: More information can be found at http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=tax_credits.tx_index
